"Not long after I moved to Berkhamsted (possibly the pushchair capital of Hertfordshire?!), equipped with a toddler and a career that was becoming more and more incompatible with raising a family, I stumbled across the Dinky Dancers website during one of those ‘what should i be when i grow up’ moments (was still having them at 35!) - and an idea was born.  With a degree in Drama, Dance and Music and a Masters in Choreography, Dinky Dancers seemed to offer something that i had often dreamed about but never thought possible:  the possibility of a fulfilling career that not only matched my skills but also offered enough flexibility to be a mother (as opposed to just ‘having children’) – surely not?!  it seemed almost too good to believe.

Within weeks the career was jacked in, the Summer House converted to an office (it pays to have a husband with his own refurbishment business), and training in the diary, the Dinky Dancers adventure began!

Exciting, daunting, worrying, ...are just a few ways to describe the journey so far.  My motto – ‘why make things easy when you can make things difficult for yourself’ was ringing loudly in my ears when, just two months before all my new classes were set to launch, I discovered I was pregnant.  Brilliant! 

A race to find fabulous, reliable and exciting class leaders became my mission over that summer.   And somehow, as my growing belly began to take over more and more of the summer house, fantastic class leaders were found, classes were launched...and Dinky Dancers West Herts and The Chilterns was born!

It seems hard to believe that less than a year later i not only have a beautiful new baby daughter, but a thriving business with a growing portfolio of classes across the breadth of my territory.  Blood, sweat and hormonal tears, yes – but also joy, excitement, bewilderment and fun! And this is just the start....

I somehow managed to squeeze back into the Dinky Dancers t-shirt and resume teaching just 6 weeks after giving birth (in between baby feeds) - so desperate was I to remind myself of why I wanted to be part of Dinky Dancers – the thrill of teaching small children the joys of movement - a terrific reminder of what it felt like to be young and innocent!”.
